Teaching Philosophy

I am a committed, creative, and compassionate educator. I bring my interdisciplinary scholarly background in anthropology and music to my teaching and have taught undergraduate courses in both disciplines at the University of Pennsylvania since 2020. Across fields and topics, I aim to lead my students to examine cultural diversity and structures of power, develop critical thinking and research skills, and engage with the broader contemporary and historical world. All my students, regardless of academic background, already have a great deal of firsthand knowledge about culture and music. This means they learn best not only from me, but also from their peers, including by bringing their own life experiences into the classroom. My pedagogy therefore emphasizes experiential learning, inclusion, and empathy.
